German School Association

The German school association is the governing body and registered non-profit organization that oversees the operations of the German embassy school in Addis Ababa (DBSAA). Members include parents, alumni, and other supporters who take an active role in sustaining the school's future.

At the annual general meeting, members elect a Board of directors comprised of eight parent representatives who each serve a two-year term. Teachers, school employees, and parents' council members are ineligible for Board positions.

Purpose

The association's key objectives are to:

Establish and maintain an accredited German school and kindergarten for German-speaking students

Promote students' multicultural awareness through German and Ethiopian cultural immersion

Partner with the German Embassy and government to shape the school's structure and strategy.

Provide an education aligned to German educational standards and internationally-recognized curricula

Welcome non-German speaking students who commit to learning German

The Board

The Board oversees all legal, financial, budgetary and personnel matters related to the Association and school, in collaboration with school leadership. Educational policies and programs are decided jointly with school management, guided by the German Central Office for Schools Abroad and the Conference of Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs.
